I know this blog hasn't seen any activity for a while but we've gone through a LOT of changes over the past year. Starting this business a few years back we never imagined to have developed such an extensive portfolio and have meet so many great people. Jacquie and I both learned so much about our craft just through experience and some awesome families to model for our portfolio.

Jacquie is hanging out in Florida as a District Regional Manager for a major company and is doing a great job at it. With her gone, I'm back to being a lone gun man and I've moved to a new name and a new site. If you're in Hawaii and you'd like our services please come on over to

Wainwright Family

I recently did a family photo shoot for the Wainwright's up on the North Shore. This field and road location is one of my favorites to work at, and I was really excited when I saw the props that Lia & Jason brought along for the kids. Sarah and Matthew are both explorers and loved the open field. I followed them around and snapped pictures of them catching bugs with their butterfly nets and holding them captive in their mason jars. It was so cute. They are both such sweet, fun loving kids and I had a great time working with them. I hope you enjoy looking! :)

Berry Family

The Berry's are so fun to work with. This is the second time I've worked with them and the first time little Trenton joined us for the photo session. We did the photo shoot at Lanikai Beach and even though the weather was overcast, we made the most of it. Overcast skies make for such beautiful even natural light, and it works perfectly for fair skin people and babies with sensitive skin. This is another family who has a Daddy deployed right now. I hope that these photos will warm their hearts and make the deployment a little more bearable. Enjoy browsing! :)

Cave Family Photos

Ryan and I worked with the Cave family last year for a family session on the windward side. I had the pleasure of working with them again this year and we did the shoot up in Haleiwa. The kids have grown up so much since I saw them last, and we had a great time walking around the small town taking photos. Jason left a few days after the shoot for a year long deployment with the military. I hope these photos will help to keep Daddy close to all of their hearts while he's gone. We wish them the best during this deployment. :)

Sloan's Cowgirl Birthday Party

Sloan turned two recently and had a huge cowgirl birthday party so that she could celebrate the day with all of her friends. It was one of the cutest toddler birthdays I've been to. Everyone one was having fun, not just the kids... that's how you know it was a good party. :) They had pony rides, cowboy hats, a jump house, lemonade, a HUGE slip'n slide and an adorable pony birthday cake. I had so much fun at this event! I hope you enjoy browsing! :)

The Malloy Family

I first met the Malloy family when Jen and Alan brought baby Sam to my studio for his newborn photos. Shortly after receiving their newborn pictures they scheduled a shoot with the whole clan. Their kids were so fun to work with. They are all very creative and social which helped the photo shoot run smoothly. Christiaan & Lori :: eSession

Christiaan and Lori are going to be getting married Hawaiian style next year. They visted Oahu recently, from California, to meet with their vendors and make all of their wedding day arrangements. While here I had the opportunity to give them a Hawaiian style eSession. They were so much fun to work with as they're both really silly and outspoken. It was my first photo shoot where the man asked if we could get a skipping photo, hehe. I thought it was great and love how the shot came out. Christiaan and Lori are such a great duo and we're looking forward to working with them again for their wedding day. :)

The Kau Wedding (Reception)

The To family came to the visit the windward side of the island all the way from that Bay area.Their little boys, Wyatt and Landon, are just too cute! I love how close in age they are. Norman & Shantel's Wedding Day

I had the pleasure of working with a really fun couple, Norman and Shantel, for their wedding. It was held at the beautiful Pali Golf Course in Kaneohe. The setting couldn't have been more perfect. It was a fun filled afternoon that ran into the evening hours. Their family, friends and guests were all so happy and you could tell everyone was having a great time celebrating. Punaluu Vacation Home

I've worked with Kathy McGovern on a few beach weddings and most recently worked with her for Richard and Rachel's special day (last post). She is a very talented floral designer and also happens to own a vacation home in Punaluu. It's a perfectly quaint North Shore getaway. She needed some new photos of the home to use for advertising purposes, and I was thrilled to spend a little time there photographing. The backyard is like a Hawaiian garden oasis and even has a koi pond. With the home being only a few steps to the beach, it's the perfect location for a beautiful beach wedding. Richard & Rachel's Wedding Day

Richard and Rachel had a special wedding vacation to the beautiful island of Oahu. They had an intimate beach ceremony with Richard's son, Luke, as the one and only guest of honor. The vacation home where they were staying in Punaluu is owned by Kathy McGovern who also did all of the floral arrangements. More about her beautiful work in the next blog post... ;) I had a wonderful time capturing the sweet moments of their special day. They are now officially a match made in paradise. Brittany's Boudoir Photo Session

Samantha and Christopher met here in Hawaii for the first time since they were married ... over a webcam. It had been a whole year since they'd seen each other in person. Chris's boat pulled into port at Pearl Harbor and Samantha came out to visit. I'm glad I was able to meet up with them during their vacation time to take photos in their wedding outfits. Their friend was kind enough to meet us early in the morning to give us a boat ride out to the sand bar in Kaneohe. We ran into some rain, but the clouds were absolutely beautiful and made the backdrop for the photos very unique. I had such a great time working with these two fun loving people. Cyndi, Joe and their adorable chihuahua, Levi, met with me for some family photos recently. We headed to one of my favorite North Shore beaches, and then ended up in Haleiwa for some shave ice. It was a beautiful day with bright blue skies and puffy white clouds. Levi was ridiculously cute and such a great model. I couldn't believe how chill he was even when they decided to bury him in the sand. He didn't even try to get out, lol! Cyndi and Joe were a blast to hang out with, and I hope I'll get to work with them again in the future! :)

I got to work with Amanda and Brice recently who wanted to get some family photos done. We met out at Kailua Beach which is a local dog beach here on Oahu. The dogs had so much fun running around, meeting other dogs and getting wet in the ocean. I had a blast chasing them around. I may have found a new favorite subject for my photos. Sophie (the black/gold puppy) is only a few months old and is the cutest thing ever! She was so sweet and came to sit with me several times throughout the shoot. Jessica's Photo Shoot - Part 1

Ryan's sister Jessica came out this past summer to visit us. I couldn't resist doing photo shoots with her while she was here. She's an amazing dancer and I've never had the opportunity to work with a dancer before so I made sure we were able to do this. We shot at two locations for this theme. The first was at a parking garage in downtown Honolulu to get a more urban feel, and then we did the more classic beach ballet photos at the From Here to Eternity beach. I had so much fun doing this portion of the shoot. I hope that I'll be able to work with more dancers in the near future! :)

Warren & Andrea's Wedding Day

First off, I had SO much fun working with Andrea on this destination wedding. She has been such a fun, upbeat, and over all awesome bride to work with! She planned the whole thing from Iowa while her fiance, Warren, was deployed with the military. They met here on Oahu only a day or two before the actual ceremony. What a perfect situation for me, because these two were complete love birds! The ceremony took place at the From Here to Eternity beach, which is my absolute favorite beach on the island. From there we drove around the island and stopped at several locations including Lanikai Beach, Kualoa Beach (Chinaman's Hat), an old rundown building on the North Shore and ended the day by watching the sunset in Haleiwa. It was a perfect day with a perfect couple. I wish Warren and Andrea nothing but the best in life. Congratulations!! :)

Randy & Sheila's Wedding Day

Sheila and Randy had a beautiful morning ceremony at the Moana Surfrider hotel in Waikiki. They both love the hotel and wanted to incorporate the ambiance into their photos. I personally love the hotel as well and was really excited to do this photo shoot with them. We had an hour before the ceremony to walk around and take the bride and groom shots. My favorite location had to have been the hallway with all of the windows and the double doors where we did Sheila's bridal photos. It was such a great location and I'm glad I had the opportunity to work with such a great couple. Congratulations to the newlyweds and best wishes for the future! :)

Sam's Newborn Session

Alan and Jenifer brought baby Sam to my studio for his newborn photo session. It was great working with this couple. They are probably the most relaxed parents I've ever worked with at a newborn session. That might have something to do with them having several older children. I'm sure it's nice to have a bunch of helpers when a new baby arrives. I know I loved playing mommy when my youngest brother was born! :) Sam was a great model baby and gave us a great variety of shots. Congrats to the Malloy family on another healthy and beautiful baby! :)

I photographed a family session for the Sears family at the Hale Koa and we also walked along the beach for some more candid shots. These kid are SO adorable and have great personalities. I was invited into the McDonald's home to do a newborn session for their beautiful baby boy, Abram. He was such an awesome baby to work with! I got sleeping photos and photos where he was staring at the camera! What more could I ask for?? I love photographing newborn babies. They make me so happy when I see their cute little facial expressions change every few seconds. Hires Family Photos

I had a wonderful time working with Brian, Michelle and their sweet daughter, Hope. We met at one of my favorite locations on the island, Puu Ulalakaa Park on Mt. Tantalus. It has one of the most beautiful views I've ever seen. I just love it up there. Hope is such a sweet, fun loving little explorer. She loved finding the bugs on the trees and was truly intrigued when a lady bug landed on her Mom. I wish I could go back into that child-like state of mind every once in a while. Jason & Tatiana's Wedding Day

Jason and Tatiana came to Oahu all the way from Connecticut to have a beautiful Hawaiian beach wedding ceremony. Even though it rained, it was still beautiful, and the rain definitely didn't dampen anyone's spirits. This was a very lively bunch and they were SO fun to work with. They actually remind me so much of my own family which made the experience even better. After the ceremony we went to Tatiana's sister's home in Hawaii Kai and had an intimate reception on the lawn. I had such a great experience working with this family, and I know both sides are so happy to be introducing a new member to the family. Best wishes to Jason and Tatiana in all of your future endeavors! :)

Watkins Family Photos

I worked with the Watkins family this past January for Chiara's newborn photos. I was so excited to work with them again in a natural light environment. Stephen and Nikola's little girls, Alyssa and Chiara were so easy to photograph. They both were smiling consistently throughout the shoot and that made getting a good shot pretty simple. We did the session at the Ko'olina Lagoons and it turned out to be great lighting and small crowds. It was such a pleasure working with the Watkins again, and I look forward to photographing them again in the future! :)

Tutt Family Photos

We worked with the Tutt family back in November, and boy, has Emma grown since then! She is a spunky little girl full of energy and curiosity. We did the session at Foster Botanical Gardens which allowed for some beautiful greenery. Emma and I ran around and she played while I snapped away. These photos capture her just as she is, posing was out of the question. We were in a new place and there were just too many cool things to discover. It was great working with Amanda, Cody and their little girl again, and I hope to see them again in the future! :)

Kobayashi Wedding

Teppei and Akiko had a beautiful wedding ceremony at the Moana Surfrider in Waikiki. They traveled all the way from Japan and brought along many friends and family members from all over the world. Even though we had to use a translator to communicate, we all still had a great time capturing the moments of their special day. You should have seen my mad sign language skills, lol. Jill contacted me because she wanted to put together a gift for her husband who is away from the family on a deployment right now. She wanted to get photos taken of her and their two adorable kids, Jada and Jack. We started in a field near the Koko Crater trail head and then made our way to the From Here to Eternity beach. The kids did great and seemed to have a ton of fun, especially at the beach making sand castles. It was fun following them around to capture those candid moments. I'm sure these pictures are going to mean the world to their Daddy. Enjoy! :)

Jenni and Cem were such a wonderful couple to work with. I absolutely loved their ceremony. It has to go down as one of my top ten favorite wedding ceremonies of all time. The beach location in Kailua was breathtaking, the bride and groom were stunning, and the emotions of the bride and groom along with all of their beloved guest were ever present. I don't know that there was a dry eye in the house. I was trying to hold back the tears and I had just met them! They are truly an amazing couple and are completely perfect for each other. If anything, I think these photos reflect the emotions of the day, the biggest being their love for one another. I wish Cem and Jenni the best as they start an amazing new journey together. Justin & Karin's Couples Session

Karin and Justin set up a couples photo session to capture their last days on Oahu. They recently moved to California, and I'm glad that I was able to help them remember this beautiful island while they were here. We initially planned to shoot at Lanikai Beach, but the weather was not being cooperative. Instead we traveled down to Waikiki and took a walk along the beach near the Hale Koa hotel. It ended up being a beautiful evening and we took advantage of it. It was so much fun working with these two. Justin knows how just how to make Karin laugh, and I'm sure that's a big reason of how they fell in love in the first place. Their personalities just click. I had a great time just talking and laughing. Best wishes to the Ivancic's in their journeys in California!

Walker Wedding

Our friends and new neighbors, Chris and Cari, had gorgeous wedding ceremony at Foster's Point a few weeks back. They are a wonderful couple and seem to have so much fun together. Chen Wedding

Lai and Xiaoyan recently came to Hawaii to celebrate their marriage with their close friends and family. Unfortunately I was already booked the evening of their ceremony, but we were still able to book a two hour session the morning of, and I was thrilled for that. I love getting to work exclusively with my wedding clients, and this group was especially fun.

We started out at the Sheraton and walked a little ways down the boardwalk towards Diamond Head. It was a complete pleasure getting to work with Lai, Xiaoyan and their wedding party. Trinh Family Photos

The Trinh family came to visit Oahu a few weeks back for a Hawaiian vacation. We met near their hotel at one of the Ko'olina Lagoons. It was a gorgeous morning with bright blue skies. Tomas and Linh's daughter, Hannah, was completely in her element on the beach. This was her first time being at a beach and let me tell you, she is a dare devil! Once she had her swimsuit on she crawled into the water like it was nothing. I love working with kids who are in their own little world. It helps me to capture them in a naturally candid way. It was a pleasure working with the Trinh's and I hope to work with them again on their next Hawaiian vacation! :)

Aherin Family Photos

I've worked with Bonnie on several photo shoots and she's even done her own shoot with me last year. She has a great creative mind and I really enjoy collaborating with her on projects. She referred me to her husbands family when they came in from the mainland several weeks ago and I was honored to do a family session for all of them.

I got to work with Bob & Susan (Dad/Mom, Grandpa/Grandma), Eric (Ryan's brother) & Jessica (sis-in-law), Ryan & Bonnie and their two boys, Ronan and Maddox. They are all such wonderful people and I really enjoyed being able to spend time with these fine people. We did the session along the horse trail at the Turtle Bay Resort on the North Shore. There were lots of great places along the way where we stopped to take photos. I love a variety in background, it really spices the photos up.

I met the Godsey family out at Kakaako Waterfront Park a few weeks back for an evening family session. I'd been to the park previously for Thad and Anna's wedding and while waiting for the wedding party to arrive I saw a family sledding down the grassy hills with cardboard. I made a mental note that I had to photograph a family session that incorporated the cardboard sled asap. Who knew you could go sledding in Hawaii, lol! The Godsey's were the perfect family for this session. Ben and Yvonne's boys, Nathan and Zachary, had never done this before and let me tell you, they had a blast!

Both of the boys were so adorable. I had fun talking to Nathan about all sorts of things. He is a social butterfly and even made friends with the fisherman at the park. Zachary has the cutest laugh ever! I think you can even tell how cute it is when you see the pictures. I had a great time working with this family and hope this post inspires you to go sledding, even if you're in Hawaii! Enjoy. :)

Thad & Anna's Wedding Ceremony

Thad and Anna had a beautiful sunset wedding at Kakaako Waterfront Park a few weeks back. The view was amazing and the sunset was perfect for their intimate ceremony. A handful of their friends and family attended the ceremony and they all seemed so excited for the newly weds. After the ceremony we had fun walking around the park doing a mini photo session. Dennis & Lauren's Photo Session

Lauren and I have become friends recently and I was really excited when she wanted to book a couples photo shoot with me. She is such a cool girl and the minute I met her husband, Dennis, I knew they were a perfect match. They're one of those couples who truly complete each other. They wanted to have some photos taken before Dennis headed out for a deployment to Iraq. I know they're both really excited to see the photos, I'm sure it will mean even more since they're not together right now.

We all drove up to Haleiwa for the photo shoot... through the awful traffic and all. We stopped along the way in a grassy field for a few shots and then made our way to Haleiwa and started walking around. It was a completely random shoot as we just stopped at whatever caught my interest. I love sessions like that. I think some of my best work comes from being spontaneous.

Below are some of my favorite photos from the session. As you can probably tell from the photos, they're a super fun couple to hang out with. I had such a great time. Hope you guys enjoy these photos and that a smile comes to your face while browsing. :)

Jennifer and Will contacted me because they wanted to document a special time in their lives. Baby Isaiah will soon be their first child. We did before photos, then she spray tanned them in my living room and then we did all of the after photos. All three of the girls and Karin were all up beat and fun to work with. Kraber Family Photos

I met the Kraber family at Ala Moana Park several weeks ago for an evening family session. It was my first time photographing at Ala Moana Park and I was so happy that I finally got to check the place out. I've even been back since with my dog, Hurley, to run the trail there. It's an awesome park! I especially loved all of the tall city buildings in the background making for a unique skyline.

Kellen and Amy we really easy going and Evelyn was ready to play at her favorite park. I have to say, this girl has SO many facial expressions for her age. It was so cute and funny at the same time. Corina's "Out-doir" Session

Corina was such a fun and cool girl to work with. She wanted to put together an album for her upcoming anniversary. Her husband is an avid surfer so we incorporated some swimsuit shots into the session as well. We had everything from sexy lingerie, cute sun hats, classy lingerie dresses, and old trunk, retro suitcases, bar stools, a surf board and swimsuits. You should have seen us unpacking, lol. :)

We started the session at a tall grass field near the North Shore and then headed to a remote beach on the North Shore for sunset swimsuit shots. Corina was bubbly and super easy to work with. We were joking around most of the time which made for some really cute laughing shots. I had so much fun taking the boudoir session outdoors. I guess we can this type of shoot an "out-doir" session, lol. I think the locations fit her personality so well and I think her husband is going to love seeing Corina looking hot with his favorite hobby. ;)

Berry Maternity Session

If I were to have a maternity session, this would be exactly the way I'd do it. I love everything about this shoot; the earth tone colors, the naturally rustic landscape, the heavenly warm tones, and especially the amazing people I got to work with. Katie called me only a few weeks before she was due to give birth to their second son. I quickly squeezed their session in and we meet at a grassy field up near the North Shore.

Katie and Brandon wanted to have a very natural and simple session, so we didn't use the typical baby props that you'd see at other maternity session. The focus was on the family and where they were at this point in their lives. Their son, Cameron, was a bundle of energy. He was having a blast running around in the field. It was fun following him around looking for bugs and other things that kids find simply amazing.

A few weeks ago baby Trenton was born and I got to take his first professional photo at the hospital (as some of you know, I take the newborn photos at Tripler). He is the cutest little thing with a button nose and all. Congrats to the Berry family and I hope you enjoy reminiscing on how life was a few short weeks ago! :)

First off I just have to say that I had so much fun at this photo shoot! Cris and Emilie wanted to have photos taken of their two girls, Juneau and Nova. They wanted to use some of the photos for Nova's 1st birthday party... an extravagant event from what I heard. With her birthday in mind I brought along some balloons, gift bows and colorful lollipops. I think Emilie and I were on the same page because she brought some of the cutest props! Pettiskirts for the girls (made by her Mom mind you), stuffed animals, Ohio State jerseys, a little blue rocking chair and more. There wasn't a dull moment as we had so many sets to go through. The girls seemed to be having a blast though, Nova with the balloons and Juneau with the lollipops- plural. ;)

It was really neat how Cris and Emilie have two girls that are only a few months apart, but they're practically raised as twins. Ryan and I have talked about adopting a Chinese baby once we meet the requirements. I might have to talk to him about having a baby of our own around the same time. What an awesome way to raise the children. I've been inspired!

Thanks to Cris, Emilie and Emilie's sister for helping to make the photo shoot run so smoothly. The girls are absolutely full of life, love and beauty. You guys were a dream to work with! :)

Both of the girls were so funny with these lollipops, but Juneau in particular.
That girl loved the lollipops. When Nova was finished Juneau didn't hesitate to work
on that one too (as seen in the top left photo). It was hilarious.

Cory & Angie are Married!

Cory and Angie said their "I do's" a few weeks ago at Foster's Point on Hickam AFB. They had an intimate ceremony and reception with people who truly seemed to care for them and share in their joy. The Peck's have two adorable little girls and that allowed for many little friends to be a part of the festivities. Angie and Cory were inseparable throughout the evening. Every time I looked over they were always holding hands, kissing and cuddling... making for great photo ops! I wish the best to the Peck family and their new married life. :)

Our Maui Vacation

Ya'll aren't going to believe this. Ryan and I actually went on a vacation. Hallelujah! It was just a short three day trip to Maui, but it was just what we needed at the time. I finally finished up these photos that I've been working on here and there for the past month and a half... yes, our personal photos are on the same return schedule as our clients, lol.

Our original reason for heading to Maui was because we heard of a St. Patrick's Day 5k race that offered free beer at the end. Free beer, we're there! ;) I made our reservations with the Superferry, booked us a hotel in Kahului and we were all set, or so we thought. The night before the scheduled boat ride the Superferry was closed down, and thankfully we saw it on the news because they didn't even call to inform us. As Stephanie Tanner would say, "How rude!". As fast as my little fingers could type I got online and booked a flight, I wasn't going to let anything get in the way of our much needed vacation time! :)

We finally made it to Maui and it was a beautiful sunn...err.. cloudy day and it stayed that way the whole time we were there. Well, we weren't going to let clouds ruin the trip, so we still took a ton of landscape photos, but you'll notice that the sky looks a little blah. Oh well, what can ya do? Ryan and I had a blast while on the island. It is definitely the island of aloha, I've never met such nice, helpful and friendly people here in Hawaii. We almost had a heart attack when we realized that we were on a "major" highway at 5pm. We both hate traffic, so on Oahu we never get on the road during rush hour (if we can help it), but on Maui there seems to be no such thing. What a relief! I want to move there just for the awesome non existant traffic. :) It was a nice change of pace from big city life in Honolulu. We enjoyed being on Hawaii time everywhere we went.

Here are a few photo collages I put together and I'll narrate as you read/look through the post.

The first day we went to Lahaina and it was a beautiful drive. Maui is so naturally beautiful. I could have drove for days just looking out the window. While in Lahaina, we walked up and down the main street which is comparable to Waikiki, but on a MUCH smaller scale. We loved how quaint the neighborhood was.

There was a Banyon Tree Park along the way and it was breathtaking... once you realized that it was one tree covering an entire park. How awesome! The bottom left photo is the base of the tree. You can see other "trunks", but they are actually roots that grow from the branches and provide support to the branches. I thought of my Mom when I saw this tree. When we were kids my Mom would always admire the trees when we drove places. I found that I've picked up this habit too as I've gotten older.

This picture is just for Ryan's sister, Annie. We thought of you when we saw this in Lahaina. :)

A few blocks away from the main street in Lahaina was this old jail house that we were able to walk in and check out. It was actually pretty nice. We got to see the old cells and read some interesting facts. There was also a really old car out front that Ryan had fun photographing.

That night, after Lahaina, we ran the "St. Patrick's Day Run 'til You're Green 5K". We started at the Ale House in Kahului (in the rain mind you) and ran along some worn down beach road where there were some interesting characters. You'd think that type of scene would make us run faster... you thought wrong, lol. I did horrible, but my trusty sidekick, Ryan, stayed with me the whole time claiming that he had cramps. He might have just been being protective, and with that sweet thought in mind I let him beat me at the finish line. ;) We couldn't bring the camera to the actual race because of the rain, so we had fun goofing around back in the hotel room... yes, we're dorks, lol.

The next day we woke up nice and early to go on an exciting adventure, the road to Hana. I was really pumped about this as I'd read a whole (long) chapter about it in our Maui Revealed guidebook the night before. This drive is one of the most famous drives in Hawaii and has been compared to driving though the garden of Eden: a slow, winding road through a lush paradise that you always knew existed-somewhere. I got Ryan all amped to go see some awesome waterfalls, beautiful landscape and a town called Hana. So we set out at 7:30am for the 52 mile, 600 turn, small two lane road wrapping around the side of a mountain with stomach wrenching drop offs into the beautiful ocean. Oh, I almost forgot all of the one lane bridges and the bold Hawaiian natives speeding around corners in an apparent game of chicken. Yay!

First stop, Haipua'ena Falls. How tranquil and serene. I think I've had dreams of being at a waterfall like this. I thought of my dad while I was here. See all the river rocks in the bottom photo? When I was younger my Dad decided to lay a rock path next to the driveway and we used these exact rocks. A few years later he needed to refill the path with more rocks but we couldnt' find the right rocks. They were discontinued apparently. Well, I found them, but there's no way in heck I'm paying the shipping fees from Hawaii to Florida for ROCKS! lol. Sorry, Dad. At least you can enjoy the picture. ;)

Here are a few photos I snapped while we were driving along the road. It was so lush and green. The photo on the bottom left is a photo of the road we were driving on. See all the turns! Ryan's wrists were sore the next day just from driving. The last picture on the right I took because I kept looking out the back window in awe of the scenery we were leaving behind. It was surreal.

I forgot to mention. We were fortunate enough to make this drive in a more "luxurious" car. Haha. :) It looked SO out of place. We should have got a 4wd Jeep or something.

Halfway to Hana and starving! Thankfully a few small businesses assumed we'd be hungry at this point and we enjoyed a nice lunch under a hawaiian hut. Now my guidebook suggested to try the banana bread here, so I had to get a loaf. Oh my gosh. It was out of this world! I might have to make the drive again just for the banana bread.

With full stomachs we got back on the road off to find our next destination. We stopped for a few minutes at the Wailua Valley State Wayside and it was pretty cool. The photo on the bottom left is of a town that has taro fields. Taro is the plant used to make that nasty stuff called poi which you'll most likely only try at a luau. The photo on the bottom right is pretty cool. Notice how steep the valley walls are, yet the floor is so broad and flat? This valley used to be thousands of feet deep, cutting into the very core of the volcano. Lava eventually filled the valley and that's why it looks the way it does today. If you look close you can also see a bunch of waterfalls coming down the mountains.

Three Bears falls was the main waterfall we wanted to hit up. We got adventurous here... with our flip flops and all. Most of the drivers pull off the side of the road and view the waterfalls from a one lane bridge that is pretty far away. We jumped over the bridge (it was scary!) and hiked down to the actual fall. That's why you don't see anyone else in the photo. It was slippery, loud and magnificant. I love waterfalls!

The next waterfall we stopped at is usually passed by drivers because it's under a one lane bridge that we drove over. The pictures of us are pretty bad because we were trying to dodge traffic and hold a camera off the side of a bridge. It was quite funny. :)

I was really excited about stopping at this temple. I love seeing ancient things and this was really old. It doesn't look big from the pictures here, but it is utterly colossal covering 3 acres! Construction started on the temple in the late 1200s A.D. and the second phase was completed around 1570. It was forgotten and buried under vegetation until the garden restored it in the late '90s.

Black Sand Beach was another pit stop we were stoked about. The beach was formed when lava flowed and fountained into the sea near here, shattering on contact with the ocean. Fragments smashed against each other and formed the sand you see. Amazingly, this beach was formed in just a few days and is relatively new to the island. Usually within a few 100 to a 1000 years beaches like this will vanish as the ocean gradually sweeps the precious sand away.

Shortly after Black Sand Beach we made it to Hana. It was not what we expected, lol. A small town with a few hole in the wall restaurants and a few homes. I don't even think there was a stop light. We decided to keep on going around instead of turning around and going the same way we came. We were driving a HUGE circle around a volcano called Haleakala which covers the eastern half of Maui. The road to Hana covered the north side and now we were coming around the south side. The road quickly changed as you can see in the photos below.

We were so glad we kept going after Hana. The terrain was so beautiful. It was worth the one way dirt roads with 20-30 story drop offs into the ocean... I think. I was freaking out as I'm afraid of heights and there were some crazy drivers going in the opposite direction. At one point we saw a drop off that 5 cars had fallen off of. The demolished cars were at the bottom of the rocky pit... that was comforting. As scary as it was, I'm glad we were able to see the beautiful land.

The top left photo is of a dog who was out in the middle of nowhere. Ryan, being the animal person he is, actually found the owner after 20 minutes or so. He should be the next dog whisperer. :) There were cows in in the middle of the road and the bottom panoramic photo shows the terrain with the small dirt road we were on.

Here are a few things we thought were pretty. Isn't that an awesome spider photo! Props to Ryan on that one, I already have it hanging in the house.

A few more pretty things.

The last day we were lazy and then headed to the airport. We had a bit of a wait, so we busted out Boggle. I had to take this photo as stupid as it is. If you've ever seen the movie Along Came Polly you'll appreciate this, lol. Click here for a link to the scene from the movie (so funny). I know my brothers will be proud that I spotted this word, haha! :)

Last but not least are just a few photos I snapped while waiting in the terminal. I thought the couple in the black and white photo were so cute. This is a classic picture of Ryan with iPhone in hand. What would he do without that thing! :P

Shub Newborn/Family Photos

Lydia recently made her grand entrance into this world, and new parents Julie and Jonathan are gleaming with excitement and love. They already seem like they're wonderful parents; patient, down to earth, loving and fun. Lydia was such a trooper throughout the shoot. I had fun catching her many expressions. I love newborn sessions, they're always so natural and candid. Babies are going to do what babies are going to do and I'm just there to capture the moments. I'm always thinking while editing newborn sessions, I wonder which picture they're going to show on their high school graduation slide presentation, or what photo will they show their fiance/fiancée one day. I love thinking that I've created something that the little one will look at and hopefully treasure in the future. This is the best job on earth, seriously! :) Congratulations to the Shub family and I hope you guys enjoy these photos for years to come.

Dennis & Lauren Sneak Peek

I went up to Hale'iwa last night with Dennis and Lauren to do a couples shoot. We had fun walking through the town stopping at fun little spots to take photos. Cowan Family Photos

I met the Cowan's at the Ko'olina Lagoons last month for a fun family session. Devin and Amy's little girl, Autumn, was so cute. She lived in her own little world and was happy as any child could be. I had fun chasing her around and getting some great candid material to work with. Mom and Dad were easy to photograph as they are obviously in love. I came out with so many kissing, cuddling and teasing photos of these two, and I think they'll love them... well I know Amy will at least! ;) Hope you all enjoy these photos! :)
